「Ghost In The Shell」
First Cassette Release of The New Year.
What’s up friends! Sorry it’s been so long since my last update! I think everyone feels the same, in that life has just been wild lately. Between the holidays, new year, and now insane weather (it’s currently 4°F here lmao), it’s been a busy couple months. I planned to have a release last month, but, here we are.
BUT
I’m so excited to let you all know about this project coming out on this Friday, January 19th - Ghost In The Shell (PS1) OST
Obviously based on the 1995 anime film adaptation of the manga by Masamune Shirow, PS1 Ghost In The Shell released in 1997. The game doesn’t follow the anime’s main character, Major Kusanagi though. In this completely stand alone story you play as a new recruit to Public Security Section 9, alongside familiar characters from the film, Major Kusanagi and Batou. Through the game you pilot a Fuchikoma, the spider-like robots you might be familiar with that were frequently appearing the the anime series Stand Alone Complex. The game at the time of release was praised for it’s in-game cut scenes, that are nearly anime quality, just a little crunchy from the compression to fit it all on the single PlayStation disc.
Ghost In The Shell is a unique game, in that each region of the game got pretty distinctively different art.
All art and writing for the game was done by original creator, Masamune Shirow, so there’s a plethora of awesome original art to work with for this release. I ended up basing the design mostly off the North American art, but wanted to reference the Japanese art with the Obi-strip that featured the art continuing onto the strip, with the playstation logo and title in Japanese.
I’ve been SUPER excited to reveal these tapes because of this little detail though:
The series is called Ghost IN THE SHELL, so I put the Side B art labels on the inside of the tape so you view them IN THE SHELL of the clear cassette. I had this idea months ago and kept it a secret until I could get them made up. Every now and then I get an idea for a cool cassette project and I can’t help but feel anxiety from the fact I HAVE to do this as soon as possible before someone else comes up with the same idea, and this art inside the tape concept was one of those ideas lmao.
This is sadly going to be a smaller run though, because I’m a big ol’ dummy and I printed half my sheets of tape label stickers upside-down. I have something like 60 tapes recorded for this drop, but only ended up with enough labels for 24. Trust me, I’m still so frustrated that I wasted most my sheets of stickers, but I promise, I’ll have more coming ASAP! After this drop I’ll get more stickers ordered and I’ll get the rest ready to go as fast as I can. If these sell out too fast, I might order more tapes to do and ever bigger restock too. As a result I have to limit this drop to 1 tape per customer, just so as many people as possible can get one as possible, BUT every order from my shop comes with a discount code (that can be used indefinitely, but keep that between us ;) ) so if you wanted more than one, you’ll be able to get the other(s) at a discount. I also plan to try to have Mizzurna Falls done for this restock as well. (fun fact: one song on this MF soundtrack doesn’t have a name? as far as I can tell? This one detail has seriously been holding this drop up for 2 months because I hate to just say it’s called Untitled, because it HAS to have a name right? But there isn’t really much info out there other than the $130 guide book that might not even have the info in it. ANYONE WHO CAN HELP ME DETERMINE THE NAME OF THIS SONG GETS A FREE MIZZURNA FALLS TAPE)
These tapes go live Friday, January 19th at 12:30PM CST (link to IG post with calendar reminder function)
This drop is slightly later than normal because I have therapy at my normal drop time lmao sorry hope it’s not a problem!
I’m starting to plan my next wave of restocks too, so be sure to let me know what you want to see come back either on here, on on instagram!
